Fur In Norway

According to the January 2018 report, the government of Norway plans to close the animal fur farm before 2025.

The Norway parliament will pass the new legislation this month, immediately prohibiting the establishment of new animal fur farms and requiring the existing animal fur farms to complete the demolition work by February 1, 2025.

With the announcement and implementation of the ban, Norway will follow the footsteps of Britain, Holland and Amsterdam, and join many luxury and fashion brands in the anti fur camp.

At present, 1% of the world's mink and Fox Skins are produced in Norway.

Siri Martinsen, director of animal protection group Noah, said: "this is a great victory for the animal welfare struggle in Norway, which means that people realize that consideration for animals is more important than money and business interests."

In the past more than 30 years, Noah has been lobbying the government to formulate and promulgate the ban on animal fur farms. "Keeping animals in narrow cages is a violation of their natural instincts and does not meet their needs."

While gaining support from animal protectionists, the government of Norway has also been attacked by more than 200 local animal fur farmers. Although animal fur is a sideline of many people, it has made a lot of money.

Kristian Aasen, 39, raised 6000 mink in the Brumunddal plateau in southeastern Norway, and although he also raised 20 cattle, he said, "mink" is my 70% source of income.

Without fur, my farm is difficult to sustain. "

The Norway fur farmers association said the ban was "unfair, unlawful and undemocratic". Guri Wormdahl, a spokesman for the group, said: "in the past century, it has been a profitable but unsubsidized industry that promotes the economic growth in remote areas."

Although the closure of animal fur farms will affect the livelihoods of some people, the government of Norway has no plans to withdraw the decision.

Morten Orsal Johansen, a member of the Parliament who passed the new legislation, was an opponent of the ban. But he also insisted that "Norway animal fur farm has become a past form".

Morten Orsal Johansen also agreed to ensure that the ban was implemented as soon as possible in the capacity of special investigator.

The ban on animal fur farms was partly influenced by political decisions in Norway.

In early 2018, Erna Solberg, the conservative Prime Minister of Norway, introduced the anti liberal fur party to expand the ruling base of the two party coalition government, and the decision was one of the agreements reached between the two sides.

Just a year ago, the Norway government approved the "sustainable" development policy of animal fur breeding industry.

Kristian Aasen angrily said: "we will continue to import fur, can continue to sell fur, is not able to produce their own?"

Losing the source of life, Norway's animal fur farmers claim economic losses from the government.

At present, the government of Norway has approved the pfer of 500 million kroner to the demolition of farms, of which 100 million kronor is used to help farmers find other sources of income.

The farmers think the government needs to raise the total amount to 2 billion 300 million dkrona.

"500 million Danish kroner looks a lot, but (demolishing farms) this is not just about unemployment compensation," Guri Wormdahl declared. "This means that the entire livelihood of farmers will disappear."

At the same time, many people began to look for alternatives.

Guri Wormdahl said: "not many choices. Meat has been overproduced.

We produce too much mutton, pork, chicken and milk. "

In response, a lawmaker suggested that the animal fur farm should be changed to a cannabis farm.
